Canada beats Sweden 5-1 at Ivan Hlinka

PIESTANY, Slovakia – Mitchell Stephens of the Saginaw Spirit scored two third period goals helping Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team earn a 5-1 victory over Sweden on Tuesday at the 2014 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup.
With the win, Canada improves to 2-0 and will finish preliminary round play on Wednesday at 11:30 am Eastern against Slovakia.
Travis Konecny (Ottawa 67’s), Lawson Crouse (Kingston Frontenacs), and Jansen Harkins (Prince George Cougars) also scored for Canada.
Tyler Soy (Victoria Royals) picked up two assists.
Zach Sawchenko (Moose Jaw Warriors) finished the game with 27 saves to earn his second win of the tournament.
Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team includes 22 players from the Canadian Hockey League including eight players from the Ontario Hockey League, eight from the Western Hockey League, and six from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League competing at the 2014 U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup, Aug. 11-16 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.
