CHL Movember Campaign enters stretch drive
Wednesday November 26, 2014
Players, coaches, officials and fans from across the Canadian Hockey League are entering the stretch drive of the 2014 Movember Campaign. For the fourth straight season, teams across the CHL are participating in Movember in an effort to change the face of men’s health.
Having raised over $460,000 over the past three seasons towards the fight against prostate and testicular cancer along with men’s mental health challenges, the Canadian Hockey League is well on its way to making further contributions to that total in 2014.
With just a few days left in the campaign, the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings are the fundraising frontrunner among CHL clubs, with the contributions of rookie forward Andrew Koep leading the way. As of Wednesday morning, the Oil Kings have raised a total of $3,255, with Koep bringing in $1080 of that total to also lead all CHL players. The Oil Kings are trailed closely by the Calgary Hitmen who have raised a total of $2,831.
Across the country in Saint John, New Brunswick, the Sea Dogs are on top of QMJHL fundraising at a total of $2,077. Defenceman Bailey Webster leads team fundraising at a total of $390 while three other teammates in Blade Mann-Dixon, Adam Bateman and Matthew Highmore have all brought in totals above $100.
Sarnia Sting forward Matteo Ciccarelli leads all OHL fundraisers at a total of $685. The Sting trail the Barrie Colts in team fundraising though, as Colts defenceman Jonathan Laser leads the team having raised $580.
The ‘MOfficials’ are well on their way to a fourth straight CHL Movember Network fundraising title, having brought in over $38,000 to date. The group that largely consists of officials from across the WHL, currently ranks eighth among Canadian fundraising teams. Officials in the QMJHL have worn Movember themed jerseys throughout the month of November while OHL and WHL officials wore the uniforms throughout the 2014 SUBWAY Super Series and during Friday Night Hockey broadcast games on Sportsnet.
The Canadian Hockey League raised over $158,000 in 2013 and ranked 12th among all registered networks in Canada.
Movember supports world class men’s health programs that combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges. These programs, directed by the Movember Foundation, are focused on awareness and education, living with and beyond cancer, staying mentally healthy, living with and beyond mental illness and research to achieve our vision of an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health.
