Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Brett Zarowny of the Prince George Cougars is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending December 16 after posting a 2-1-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .968.

Zarowny stopped 91 shots in three games backstopping the Cougars to a pair of wins this past week.  Both wins came against the Vancouver Giants including a 6-0 victory on Saturday night where he recorded his second career shutout with 23 saves as the game’s second star, then on Sunday making 35 saves as first star of the 2-1 win.  Zarowny also claimed first star honours earlier in the week despite a tough 2-0 loss to the Swift Current Broncos on Tuesday where he made 33 saves.

Zarowny, a 17-year-old rookie from Edson, AB, has an 8-7-0-0 record with the Cougars so far this season.  He ranks third among WHL rookie goaltenders with a goals-against-average of 2.97 and second in save percentage with a mark of .910.

Marie Greyhounds who went 3-0-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 1.65 and save percentage of .938, while Los Angeles Kings prospect Christopher Gibson of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens went 1-1-0-1 with a goals-against-average of 1.63 and save percentage of .940.
