Drakkar’s Philippe Cadorette named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Philippe Cadorette of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the playoff week ending April 20 after posting two victories including one shutout with a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .978.
Cadorette made 44 saves backstopping the first place Drakkar to a 2-0 series lead against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the QMJHL Semi-Finals. A two-time winner of the award during the regular season, Cadorette has helped the Drakkar remain the only unbeaten team in the CHL Playoffs with 10 straight wins so far this post-season. On Friday night he earned his second shutout of the 2014 QMJHL Playoffs with 21 saves as part of the 2-0 victory in Game 1, then stopped 23 shots on Saturday in the Drakkar’s 3-1 win in Game 2.
Cadorette, a 19-year-old from St-Hyacinthe, Quebec, is playing in his third QMJHL season with the Drakkar. So far these playoffs he has posted a perfect 10-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.20 and save percentage of .951. During the regular season he tied for the QMJHL lead in wins with 36 while his goals-against-average of 2.35 ranked second behind Zchary Fucale, and his save percentage of .916 was best among all QMJHL netminders.
Also considered for the award this week was Jake Smith of the North Bay Battalion who posted two victories in two games against the Oshawa Generals in the OHL’s Eastern Conference Championship Series including one shutout with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .957. In the WHL, Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Tristan Jarry earned two wins in two games for the Edmonton Oil Kings in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Medicine Hat Tigers with a goals-against-average of 2.00 and save percentage of .938.
