Foreurs’ Louick Marcotte named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Louick Marcotte of the Val-d’Or Foreurs is the CHL Player of the Week for the playoff week ending April 20 after recording seven points in two games including two goals and five assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-6.
Marcotte helped lift the Foreurs to a pair of road victories and a 2-0 series lead against the Halifax Mooseheads in the QMJHL Semi-Finals. Marcotte had two multi-point performances and contributed to seven of the Foreurs nine goals scored in the opening two games of the series. His week began scoring a goal with two assists as second star of a 5-2 victory in Game 1, then followed that up with four points including a goal with three assists in Game 2 on Saturday as part of the 4-2 decision.
Marcotte, a 20-year-old from Longueuil, Quebec, is playing in his fourth QMJHL season and first with the Foreurs after beginning his career with three season in PEI where he was a first round pick in 2010. He is currently tied for second in QMJHL Playoff scoring with 21 points in 12 games after finishing the regular season fifth overall with 100 points including 42 goals and 58 assists in 67 games played.
Also considered for the award this week was San Jose Sharks prospect Barclay Goodrow who scored three goals and two assists for five points in two games for the North Bay Battalion who have a 2-0 series lead over the Oshawa Generals in the OHL’s Eastern Conference Semi-Final. In the WHL, Ottawa Senators prospect Curtis Lazar helped lift the Edmonton Oil Kings to a 2-0 series lead against the Medicine Hat Tigers with three goals and one assist for four points in the opening two games of the Eastern Conference Finals.
