Mooseheads’ Jonathan Drouin named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Jonathan Drouin of the Halifax Mooseheads is the CHL Player of the Week for the regular season week ending March 16 after recording 12 points in three games including four goals and eight assists and a plus-minus rating of plus-3.
Drouin earns the weekly award for the third time this season helping the defending MasterCard Memorial Cup champion Mooseheads pick up three straight wins last week to finish the 2013-14 regular season on a 13-game winning streak holding second place in the QMJHL standings. Last Tuesday night Drouin netted the overtime winner plus an assist as part of a 3-2 win over the Charlottetown Islanders, then scored twice including the game-winner plus an assist on Friday night as second star of a 7-2 win over the Saint John Sea Dogs breaking the 100-point mark for the second straight season. On Saturday night in the final game of the regular season, Drouin set a career-high with seven points including six assists which set a new franchise single game record, and added a goal as first star of an 8-6 win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
Drouin, an 18-year-old from Ste-Agathe, Quebec, is playing in his third QMJHL season. Selected third overall by the Lightning in the 2013 NHL Draft, Drouin is the reigning CHL Player of the Year and finished third in league scoring with 108 points in just 46 games played.
Also considered for the award this week was Collin Valcourt of the Prince Albert Raiders who scored five goals and six assists for 11 points in four games, and Cameron Brace of the Belleville Bulls who scored six goals and two assists for eight points in three games.
