Wednesday April 29, 2015
The QMJHL Regular Season Champion Rimouski Oceanic and the 2015 MasterCard Memorial Cup host Quebec Remparts will meet in the President Cup Final after both teams skated to 4-0 series sweeps in their semi-final series.
Both clubs advance to the President Cup Finals with sweeps for the first time since 2008 as the Rimouski Oceanic defeated the Val-d’Or Foreurs 6-0 in Game 4 on Wednesday behind winger Anthony Chapados’ two goals.
Rimouski makes their return to the QMJHL Finals for the first time since 2012 when they fell in four games to the Saint John Sea Dogs.
They’ll face a Remparts team that has turned a corner following a seven game first round victory over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
After sweeping the Charlottetown Islanders in a Quarter-Final series, Quebec eliminated the Moncton Wildcats in four straight to advance to the President Cup Finals, outscoring their opponent 20-5.
The Remparts will compete in the QMJHL Finals for the first time since 2006 when they were defeated in six games by the Moncton Wildcats. The Remparts would get their revenge though, defeating the host Wildcats in the MasterCard Memorial Cup Championship to claim their second ever Memorial Cup crown.
The Remparts are in the hunt for their first QMJHL title since 1976.
With Quebec as 2015 MasterCard Memorial Cup hosts, the Rimouski Oceanic will join the Remparts in representing the QMJHL in the Championship that gets underway on May 21.
