The Russian National Junior Team captured Game 2 of the Canada-Russia Challenge with a 6-3 win over the Canadian National Junior Team Friday in Yaroslavl to even the series 1-1 heading back to Canada where Games 3-4 will be played in Halifax, Nova Scotia, August 13-14.
Anton Zlobin (Val-d'Or Foreurs) opened the scoring for Russia, and Andrei Makarov (Saskatoon Blades) earned the win in goal.
Canadian goals were scored by Ty Rattie (Portland Winterhawks) who finished with two points, along with Morgan Rielly (Moose Jaw Warriors), and Ryan Strome (Niagara IceDogs).
Maxime Lagace (PEI Rocket) took the loss in goal.
The series is being played as a tribute to Kontinental Hockey League team Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. The club was involved in a horrific plane crash last September that killed 44 players and coaches. The tournament is also celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1972 Canada-Russia Summit Series.
