Tigers’ Cam Lanigan Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Cam Lanigan of the Medicine Hat Tigers is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week after posting a 2-0-0-0 record with a shutout victory and a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .982 for the week ending January 20.
Lanigan stopped 54 of 55 shots faced last week and helped the seventh place Tigers earn a pair of wins over top WHL Eastern Conference competition. He made 28 saves including 12 in the third period on Friday to preserve a 2-1 victory over the first place Edmonton Oil Kings and was recognized as second star of the game. On Sunday he was perfect between the pipes against the fourth place Red Deer Rebels stopping all 26 shots he faced in a 3-0 victory claiming second star honours with his second shutout of the month.
Lanigan, a 20-year-old from Calgary, AB, is playing in his fifth WHL season. In 30 games this season with the Tigers, Lanigan has a 13-10-1-1 record with two shutouts and a goals-against-average of 2.98 and save percentage of .907.
Also considered for the award this week was Mathias Niederberger of the Barrie Colts who went 2-0-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 2.40 and save percentage of .950, and Alex Dubeau of the Moncton Wildcats who posted a 2-0-0-0 record with a shutout victory and a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .979.
