Whalers’ Alex Nedeljkovic Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that rookie Alex Nedeljkovic of the Plymouth Whalers is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending March 3 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record including one shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .957.
Nedeljkovic backstopped the Whalers to three straight wins last week stopping 66 of 69 shots faced. His week was highlighted by his second career shutout on Sunday with 24 saves as third star of a 5-0 win over the Mississauga Steelheads. Earlier in the week he claimed first star honours with 25 saves as part of a 7-1 win over the Niagara IceDogs on Thursday, then made 17 saves on Friday to open March with a 7-2 win over the Erie Otters.
Nedeljkovic, a 17-year-old from Parma, Ohio, carries a 17-2-1-1 record in his first season with the Whalers who currently stand second place in the OHL’s Western Conference with 85 points. Eligible for the 2014 NHL Draft, Nedeljkovic has an impressive goals-against-average of 2.11 and save percentage of .928.
Also considered for the award this week was Louis-Philip Guindon of the Drummondville Voltigeurs who went 3-0-0-0 including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.94 and save percentage of .932. In the WHL, Cole Cheveldave of the Kamloops Blazers also went 3-0-0-0 with a shutout victory posting a 1.00 goals-against-average and a .962 save percentage.
