Wildcats’ Alex Dubeau Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Alex Dubeau of the Moncton Wildcats is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending January 27 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record with a shutout victory and a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .962.
Dubeau stopped 76 shots in three games between the pipes for the Wildcats helping the club extend their winning-streak to eight games. His week was highlighted by his league-leading fourth shutout of the season on Friday night making 21 saves in a 5-0 win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Earlier in the week he made 26 saves as second star of a 6-1 victory over the P.E.I. Rocket before closing out the week Sunday with a 29-save performance as part of a 6-2 win over the Quebec Remparts.
Dubeau, an 18-year-old from Mascouche, Quebec, is playing in his third QMJHL season but first with the Wildcats after competing two seasons with the MasterCard Memorial Cup champion Shawinigan Cataractes. He currently holds a 23-12-1-0 record with the Wildcats with a goals-against-average of 2.80 and save percentage of .893.
Also considered for the award this week was Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Garret Sparks of the Guelph Storm who went 2-1-0-0 with one shutout and a goals-against-average of 1.33 and save percentage of .957, and 2013 NHL Draft prospect Tristan Jarry of the Edmonton Oil Kings who went 2-0-0-0 while recording one shutout with a goals-against-average of 0.98 and save percentage of .952.
