Tuesday March 24, 2015
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Alex Dubeau of the Moncton Wildcats is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the final week of the regular season ending March 22.
Dubeau played just one game last week earning a milestone shutout victory on Friday night making 27 saves as first star of a 3-0 win over the Halifax Mooseheads. The shutout victory was the fourth of his season but more impressively the 16th of his five-year QMJHL career which ties Philippe Cadorette of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar for first on the all-time list. The victory was also his 41st of the season which ranks first among QMJHL goaltenders, and the 101st of his Wildcats career establishing a new all-time franchise record backstopping the club to a first place finish in the Maritimes Division this season.
Dubeau, a 20-year-old from Mascouche, QC, was originally chosen in the first round of the 2010 QMJHL Entry Draft by the Shawinigan Cataractes where he played the first two seasons of his career before joining the Wildcats in 2012. He finishes his QMJHL career second in appearances with 228 and second in wins with 138. This season he carries an overall record of 41-13-0-1 with a goals-against-average of 2.99 and save percentage of .900.
Also considered for the award this week was Marek Langhamer of the Medicine Hat Tigers who went 3-0-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 1.13 and save percentage of .951. In the OHL, New York Rangers prospect Brandon Halverson of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds posted a 2-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory for a goals-against-average of 0.66 and save percentage of .967 setting a franchise record with his 40th win of the season and tying a club record with his sixth shutout in 2014-15.
