Wildcats’ Conor Garland named CHL Player of the Week
Tuesday February 17, 2015
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that top scorer Conor Garland of the Moncton Wildcats is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending February 15 after recording nine points in three games including three goals and six assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.
Garland earns the award for the third time this season after leading the Wildcats to three straight road wins clinching a berth in the QMJHL playoffs. His week was highlighted by three first star performances recording a goal and two assists in each victory becoming the first CHL player to reach 100 points this season. On Thursday night Garland helped the Wildcats claw back from a 5-2 deficit late in the third period and added the shootout winner in a 6-5 victory over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. On Friday night his three points helped the Wildcats defeat the Chicoutimi Sagueneens 4-3 before ending his week Sunday by eclipsing the century mark as part of a 3-2 win over the Victoriaville Tigres.
Garland, an 18-year-old from Scituate, MA, is playing in his third career QMJHL season. With a CHL-high 101 points in 56 games, Garland has 27 goals and 74 assists and is just the fifth Wildcat in franchise history to reach 100 points in a season. He claimed back-to-back CHL Player of the Week honours in November.
Also considered for the award this week was Carolina Hurricanes prospect Sergey Tolchinsky of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds who scored three goals and five assists for eight points in three games, and Edmonton Oilers prospect Leon Draisaitl of the Kelowna Rockets who scored twice with seven assists for nine points in four games.
