Shawn Roed of Portland is the CHL's Player of the Week

The Canadian Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending
Dec. 9 is forward Shawn Roed of the Portland Winter Hawks of the
Western Hockey League.
Roed picked up 10 points in five league games this past week
to earn the weekly CHL honour. Roed scored four goals and added six
assists during the Winter Hawks' very busy week to help his team stay
in second place in the U.S. Division standings. He becomes the third
player from the WHL to be selected as CHL Player of the Week in the
nine weeks the selection has been made so far this season.
Forward Rick Nash of the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey
League was the OHL's Player of the Week. Nash, the top ranked OHL
player by the National Hockey League's Central Scouting Department, had
seven points in three games this week.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Offensive Player of
the Week was forward Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau of the Chicoutimi
Sagueneens. Parenteau had eight points in three league games this past
week. The QMJHL Defensive Player of the Week was goaltender Kevin
Lachance of the Quebec Remparts, who allowed just one goal in two games
this week.
The CHL's Player of the Week is announced in every Tuesday's
edition of the CHL Daily News. The CHL Daily News is also posted each
day at the league's official website, www.chl.ca. The CHL Player of the
Month will be selected each month from among the top monthly performers
in the Ontario Hockey League, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and
the Western Hockey League.

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE
There is one game in the WHL on Tuesday night as Swift Current travels to Vancouver to play the expansion Giants.
There were no games in the WHL on Monday night.
The WHL Player of the Week is forward Shawn Roed of the
Portland Winter Hawks for the week ending Dec. 9. Roed was also
selected as the CHL's Player of the Week for the same time period.
Roed picked up 10 points in five games this past week to earn
both honours. He had four goals and six assists during the week,
including three power play goals and one game-winning goal.
The busy week for Roed started Dec. 4 when he picked up a
goal and one assist in Portland's 3-2 upset win over the fifth ranked
Prince George Cougars. On Dec. 7, Roed turned in a five-point effort
with two goals and three assists in a 7-4 win over the Giants at
Vancouver.
Then on Dec. 9, with his team playing its fifth game in seven
nights, Roed figured in all three of Portland's goals in a 3-3 tie
against the visiting Spokane Chiefs. Roed scored once and added two
assists in his final game of the week.
The 20-year-old native of White Bear Lake, Minnesota is a
free agent. He now has eight goals and 18 assists for 26 points in 28
games this season.
ONTARIO HOCKEY LEAGUE
There are no games in the OHL Tuesday night and there were no games scheduled on Monday night.
The Ontario Hockey League Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 9 is London Knights' left winger Rick Nash.
Nash, the top ranked OHL player in the NHL's Central Scouting
list, scored four goals and added three assists for seven points in
just three games this past week.
Nash started the week Dec. 6 by firing his first hat trick of
the season in a 5-3 win over the Sarnia Sting at Sarnia. The next
night, he managed one assist in a 6-2 loss to the Toronto St. Michael's
Majors at The Ice House in London.
His week ended Dec. 9 with a three-point effort (one goal and
two assists), as the Knights defeated the Erie Otters 6-4. The
17-year-old native of Brampton leads London in scoring with 24 goals
and 25 assists for 49 points in just 32 games this season, tying him
for fourth place with Sarnia Sting left winger Dusty Jamieson in the
OHL scoring derby.
QUEBEC MAJOR JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE
There are three games in the QMJHL on Tuesday night.
Drummondville plays at Rouyn-Noranda, Rimouski is at Shawinigan (4) and
Victoriaville plays at Cape Breton.
There were no games in the QMJHL on Monday night.
The QMJHL Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending
Dec. 9 is forward Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau of the Chicoutimi

Parenteau had eight points in three games this past week to
take the Offensive honours, scoring three goals and adding five
assists.
His big week started Dec. 5 when he scored a pair of goals
and added one assist in a 7-3 loss to the Halifax Mooseheads. On Dec. 7
against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, Parenteau scored two goals and added
two assists in a 7-2 victory. The next day, he picked up two assists in
his team's 3-0 win against the Rimouski Oceanic.
Parenteau now has 18 goals and 21 assists for 39 points in just 24 games this season.
Lachance stopped 23 shots on Dec. 7 in his team's 3-1 win over
the Halifax Mooseheads and followed that up by posting his first
shutout of the season Dec. 9 against Moncton. Lachance stopped 20 shots
in that game as Quebec scored a 2-0 win over the Wildcats.
Lachance has posted a 3.28 goals against average and a .890 save percentage in 24 games with the Remparts so far this season.
