The Kingston Frontenacs announced today that Larry Mavety will be the Head Coach of the Frontenacs and that they have signed Darren Keily as their new Assistant Coach with the Club. Keily joins Assistant Coach / Assistant General Manager Tony Cimellaro as part of the Frontenacs bench staff for the upcoming season. Joining them will be Kory Cooper, Goaltending Coach and Jeff Foster, video.
"With the amount of experience Mav brings to the table, and the success our team enjoyed in the second half of the season, we felt it's the best option for the team," said Doug Springer, Owner and Governor of the Hockey Club. "The kids enjoy playing for him and it showed when the team's fortune turned around last season after a bad start to the year."
Keily joins the Frontenacs with 13 years of Ontario Hockey League experience; Four as an Assistant Coach under the tutelage of Bert Templeton in Barrie and then four more with him in Sudbury, followed by the last five seasons in Peterborough, the last four as the Assistant General Manager / Assistant Coach . In 2005-06 season, he and the Petes won an OHL championship and a trip to the Memorial Cup in Moncton under the direction of Head Coach Dick Todd.
"Darren Keily brings a wealth of experience and knowledge about the OHL to our organisation," said Larry Mavety, Director of Hockey Operations. "He's been to the Memorial Cup and has worked with two of the winningest coaches in the league," he added.
Keily also has worked with Hockey Canada as their Video Coach for Team Canada's Under 18 squad winning two gold medals and has been a representative at the OHL / OHF Under 16 Program three times.
